Bandits away to Eastboune on Saturday

With no home-based speedway this weekend, its a long trek for the supporters of the Berwick "Mike Hope of Wooler Ltd." Bandits (Powered by Clear Energy Consulting) who find themselves winging the long way to the Eastbourne Eagles on Saturday for a 7.30pm start.

It a throw back to times gone by as the Eagles have only just returned to the Championship after significant time in the Premiership and indeed more recently in Speedway's third tier, the National League, but now the Arlington side can re-engage rivalries of old, including a famous Cup Finals between Eastbourne and Berwick back in the late 70s.

However it's 2019 Championship League action on Saturday with the Southern side desperate to take a win having ridden five matches so far, two a home and yet to take a victory while the Bandits are currently in fifth place after racing only two meetings, but have a team spirit many others are envious of.

Berwick team boss, Gary Flint is keen to continue their excellent start to the season but is well aware they won't take things for granted, saying: "Ok, so they've had a rough start to their Championship campaign, but they have some great guys in their line up and the sort of riders you don't ignore, not least a former Bandit and England International, Edward Kennett who is a fine performer.

"The also boast Richard Lawson, a Cumbrian we know very well indeed, and suffered at his hands in he past with Glasgow and Lewis Kerr as well is a more than capable rider, so how they have yet to win a match so far is beyond me, however they have just lost the services of Tom Brennan who we saw race brilliantly at our British Under-21 event, and he will be a big loss for them, although they have signed Kyle Newman as an admirable replacement.

"We are still without Coty Garcia as his recovery from injury continues, and trying to get a suitable guest has proven seriously hard this week with various other fixtures sapping options, so we are bringing in Jordan Jenkins in for Saturday's away meeting."

Saturday's line-up

Eastbourne: Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson, Lewi Kerr, Ben Morley, Georgie Wood, Kyle Newman, Alfie Bowtell
Berwick: Aaron Summers, Jye Etheridge, Kevin Doolan, Dany Gappmaier, Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen, Jordan Jenkins (guest), Leon Flint
