IT STARTED SO WELL

Like I said, it really started well. Double-bubble defeat of the Comets, and a trophy right out of the box……

Then the injuries hit….

We struggle mid-season and come good at the end…. The age-long history of the Berwick Bandits.

On paper it was a team that I thought would have us pushing for the play offs…..

But alas….

When you lose your Number One, then your high-scoring reserve discovery and your inspirational Number Five to boot, then it ain’t ever going to be easy. No disrespect meant, but our guest replacements (other than Richard Lawson) never truly replaced the scoring power of the injured Banditos……

We’ve made very hard work of some teams at home this year, but there’s also been plenty entertainment along the way… and wasn’t last week’s Super Heat against Oxford the very thing we pay our money to see?

The grittiest of performances.

Lewi and Drew knew what they had to do. Scott Nichols knew what was needed.

Which led to four laps where a blanket could’ve been thrown over the three of them — and what a crowd reaction to actually having a pivotal race go our way…

We don’t win much up here but you cannot doubt our fans’ commitment to supporting the club. A Super Heat that really turned out to be Super!

Tomorrow against Workington brings the curtain down on the home league campaign –although there will be further speedway on September 7th….

While we are out of things, we can still throw a truly huge spanner in the hopes of Workington (praise be to God!).

The Charalambous clan are even considering travelling over to the West Coast (or, like the man says, the left-hand coast) on Sunday…

My first away meeting since Redcar, 2023!

I will remember my beta-blockers though as that part of Cumbria has traditionally been an area I’m not hugely fond of…..

I’m sure that won’t have changed!
