Lockdown day infinity plus one…
Safe to say 2020 has been a year to forget for a vast array of reasons. Locked down with little to look forward to it would appear that there is no end in sight and no speedway action on the horizon, at least for the time being.
Rumors of a season starting in August continue to do the rounds but until we’re there the picture remains somewhat unclear.
What is fairly clear to see is that 2020 has been virtually a write off, fit for scrap and should be confined to the round file in the corner of the room.
British GP in Cardiff? Cancelled.
Trips to Poland to watch the GP? Looking ever unlikely.
If 2020 was a person it would be Piers Morgan.
If 2020 was a drink, it would be milk that’s been left in the sun for a fortnight.
If 2020 was an album it would be written by Coldplay.
In short, 2020 has a damned lot to answer for and plans all over the world are entirely ruined as a result.
Of course we are all in the same boat and those among us lucky enough to be healthy and upright have plenty to be thankful for in that regard. But lets be honest here, life without any speedway has been painstakingly boring.
In the event we do happen to get some sort of racing in 2020, we will have to do so without the Glasgow Tigers, who announced they wouldn’t be racing this year irrespective of what happens.
I can’t say I’m surprised and I don’t think they will be the last club to take this action. Looking at the bigger picture though. if it guarantees they are at the tapes in 2021, then it is 100% the correct decision in my eyes.
Ultimately time will tell if and when we see any action in 2020, but for now we just need to occupy ourselves with the classic meetings on YouTube and virtual meetings on social media.
Speaking of which, a number of people have taken part in this on Facebook and made the time pass that little bit quicker by doing so.
At the time of writing the 1991 Bandits are leading the 2001 Coventry Bees in a meeting that probably nobody ever gave a thought about before…I mean who would have thought Jimmy Nilsen would be picking up race wins for the Bandits in 2020?
As always it is only made possible by those who cast a vote on the race result, so a huge thank you to everyone who has done this.
For the time being at least, this is the only sort of speedway action that any of us are likely to see.
However, when the day finally comes that we can gather in Shielfield Park once more, I bet nobody complains about how bloody cold it is.
Truth be told at this current moment in time I would probably drag myself over broken glass to see some live speedway action, but for now the waiting game continues.
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me email@example.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time…and there will be a next time.
