The curtain will officially be brought down on the Bandits 2019 season at the annual end of season shindig in the Black and Gold this Saturday night.
Usually a night of fairly epic proportions, I can’t see this years version deviating overly far from that particular script, which makes it all the more disappointing that I am unable to attend!
However, although I can’t there in person I have made small contributions to the evening which I have left in the capable hands of the one and only Mr Steve Hayward, so the masses are still able to get their Mythman fix for one last time this season.
Now given that the end of season dance is traditionally the night where the promotion and the riders do their thank you’s and what not I figured I had best do the same, and first up I want to thank a man whom I’ve never actually met, which may sound a little bizarre.
Some of you may be familiar with Mike Moseley and his work, but for those of you who aren’t Mike is one of those truly unsung heroes of speedway. Over the last thirty years he has been a contributor to the Bandits, and many other clubs matchday programmes and has provided thousands upon thousands of quiz questions, anagrams, brain teasers and articles but he has decided to call time on his magnificent efforts.
From a purely personal point of view I grew up on Mike’s quizzes and I enjoyed them as a youngster and as an adult even though I never knew half of the answers! To have eventually gone on to share the same hallowed pages as him has been a huge honour. It mightn’t mean much to some folks, but the Bandits are my club so it means a lot to me!
So thank you Mike, I wish you well in your speedway retirement!
I must also thank the Bandits promotion for allowing my ramblings to go to print and also George Dodds for making sure that all the i’s and t’s are dotted and crossesd and all the sweary words are edited out so it’s safe to print!
Scott Spence deserves a thank you for sorting out my gremlins with technology and answering the occasionsal SOS call when required!
Dennis McCleary for simply being Mr Berwick Speedway and for always being willing to help out whenever I pester him with the strangest of requests.
I should also thank Dick Barrie for his support, encouragement and for keeping everyone in check when the blogs are a day or two late!
I simply can’t go past without thanking the legends that are the Godcountry Bandits who always encourage and never discourage even the daftest of ideas!
Last but by absolutely no means least, a massive thank you to every single person who has read the column in the programme and read the blogs over the course of the season, it has been a bloody pleasure as always!
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me firstname.lastname@example.org or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time…and there will be a next time.
