Berwick Bandits vs Workington Comets

Peter Kildemand’s second successive maximum against the Comets and a huge Knockout Cup first leg lead was overshadowed by a serious crash which left exciting Australian newcomer Reid Battye heading to hospital with rib and back injuries.

Battye was send crashing into the fence by Niklas H Jakobsen, who also had to withdraw from the meeting, while Craig Cook suffered a dislocated shoulder in a freak incident in the pits.

Berwick recorded 5-1s in the first five heats to effectively end the night as a contest and only a shed primary chain prevented the all-action Nick Morris from becoming a second Bandits’ maximum man. Former Bandits Dayle Wood and Jonas Jeppesen were the visitors’ only heat winners on a dismal night.
