Berwick suffered a typically frustrating night in West Lothian, number one Peter Kildemand withdrawn from the meeting with a collarbone injury and concussion after a heat one crash.
While Kye Thomson, full, and Dan Thompson, paid, completed pretty much untroubled maximums the Bandits managed just three race wins all night, two of them coming from guest Dayle Wood, including a 5-1 with Lasse Fredriksen in heat 14 which kept them in with a shout of gaining the bonus point when the sides meet again at Shielfield Park.
Nick Morris, 11, and Victor Palovaara, 10, battled away but with Justin Sedgmen also only dropping one point to a visitor, the Monarchs won at a canter.
