It’s officially all systems go for 2023 after a successful and well-attended…
Local hero Leon Flint’s momentous 2022 season has been formally recognised by his home town.
Our skipper was invited to a reception hosted by Berwick Town Council on Friday night.
The Town Mayor’s Achievement Award is traditionally presented to groups and charities who make an outstanding contribution to the town.
But mayor, Councillor Mike Greener, said that Leon winning both the Under-21 and Under-19 British Championships, winning medals with Great Britain and establishing himself at the top of the FTS Bandits, powered by Keenwood Karpets, averages meant that the 20-year-old was a fitting recipient of the award.
After the ceremony a delighted Leon thanked the mayor and town council, adding: “It was a nice surprise to be told that I’d been nominated for the award and a pleasure to meet the mayor.
“There’s something special about being able to celebrate success in your home town and I would like to thank both the mayor and the council for their kind words.”
Leon showed off his award at the well-attended staff night where a number of new faces volunteered to join the regular matchday staff.
But there is still room for anyone willing to give up a few hours on a Saturday night. Volunteers willing to work some nights in the track bars, snack bars and other posts to make the experience run smoothly – on a rota basis if they are not available every week – should contact us via club@berwickspeedway.com
Ω There will be a work part putting the finishing touches to preparations for next week’s press and practice at Shielfield Park today, Saturday.
Anyone with a few hours free should present themselves at the pit gates from 10am onwards.
