We will keep you updated with news of skipper Danyon Hume as and when it becomes available but for the moment we can say that he was taken by county ambulance to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington.

As a club we would like to put on record our thanks to the paramedics and staff of Rapid Reaction and for the crew from the North East Ambulance Service for their prompt arrival and transfer of Danyon to A&E.

Thanks also go to the spectators in the stadium for their patience and understanding – and also the Edinburgh riders and management – during what was a lengthy delay and then the subsequent need to abandon the meeting when we reached the 9.30pm curfew imposed on us as part of our planning permission to operate at Shielfield Park.

Also for the awareness shown by spectators when leaving the car park, allowing the ambulance to get out and on its way to Cramlington as quickly as possible.

We always employ two paramedics at meetings and one of the knock-on effects of that can be an opportunity to restart racing quickly after accidents. But really they are there to offer the best medical attention in the event of an accident, which they did on Saturday
