Better Days Ahead…

As most will know, whenever I set out to put something on here I usually tend to try and keep it lighthearted and above all I usually try and keep the subject matter focused more on speedway and less about myself.

However recently I’ve sat down a few times to type something up for here and I’ve largely spent that time staring at a blank screen wondering why the words won’t flow in the usual fashion.

A lack of inspiration? Sure, a lack of racing will do that to a man.

To be fair this isn’t the first time that this has happened to me and I know for certain it won’t be the last. But it can be rather frustrating and it can cause a little bit of rot and self doubt to set in.

Truth be told there have been more than a few times in the last year or so where I’ve uploaded something and thought “that’s it, that’s the last one I’m doing.”

While we find ourselves living in dark times at the moment, I know that better days lie ahead of us and with that being said I also know that deep down within myself I won’t can resist typing something up whenever inspiration should flash in my direction.

Do you actually think that I’m going to watch the Bandits give the Diamonds a spanking and not say a thing?

Do you actually think I’m gonna watch Jye Etheridge bang in a maximum against the Monarchs and not have something to say?

Do you actually think that when those tapes fly up on our opening night that I wont be quoting Kelvin and Nige before a lap has been completed?

Sure a world with no live speedway absolutely sucks, but I would argue that living in that reality has perhaps made me appreciate what speedway has done for me even more than I did before.

When I step back and think of the friends I’ve made, the places I’ve been, the laughs and good times I’ve had all connected to speedway, I think can count myself rather fortunate.

If you discount the hangovers that have often occurred as a consequence, speedway has shown me nothing but a good time! (There’s a song about that)

For you see while it does basically boil down to four guys on bikes for four laps several times a night, we all know that it’s so much more than that.

It pulls you in and you become fully invested in it and along the way you meet some of the most genuinely decent people who would do anything to help you should you ever need it.

What’s not to like about that?

I’m not scared to admit there have been times I’ve thought about throwing in the towel due to a lack of inspiration getting the better of me. But much like I’ve alluded to already when the racing starts up again I know it will pull me right back in like it did over 20 years ago.

Does anybody actually think that when the Bandits win the league that I’m going to remain silent?

Of course not, so unfortunately you’re all stuck with me for the foreseeable!

Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me jbspeedwaymedia@hotmail.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.

Until next time…and there will be a next time.

Right I’ll hae’tae gan
