A BIG WEEKEND?

A history-making weekend this is folks… history I mean for us younger peeps (yes DB, that excludes you here 😂)

Okay, we’ve got a great home and away derby against the Monarchs but to cap off the weekend, Sunday presents the chance for millions of us to see what we haven’t seen before… an opportunity to see the English (men’s) football team line up in their first major tournament final since 1966.

I won’t deny there wasn’t a tear in my eye at the end of those agonisingly long 120 minutes… a country completely united… it just felt like there hasn’t been a pandemic for a small moment!

Is it ok to dream about it coming home ���

Anyways, last weekend proved quite a surprise for us… Friday we travelled down to Scunthorpe and became the first team to take a point, just missing out with a score of 47-43.. a very welcome point it was and that is with Jye only managing to score 2 points from the no.1 position……

Take into account that both Edinburgh and Glasgow got nowt there (and they have heavy hitting no.1s 😂 I feel it’s a credit to how well we did do).

Maybe, just maybe, if I treat every meeting like we’re gonna get battered then I may not take defeat so badly….

Saturday saw the Diamonds come a-knocking… and at one point I thought they were gonna come and slam the door open!

We genuinely made hard work of the Diamonds, only pulling away over the last four heats. There was a few questionable decisions made during the meeting IMO… maybe that’s why I ain’t a team manager… I just believe that when you have a reserve in the form that Leon has been in this year that you use him to the fullest he can be used!

Okay, if he’s knackered or has bike troubles, I hold my hands up, but I just speak as I find! Regardless of that anyways, a win is a win… and a very welcome 4 points from 2 meetings it was!

Sunday for the Bullets saw an eventual rain-off at Mildenhall. Credit has to be given to the Mildenhall promotion who delayed the start time to try and work on the track but sadly to no avail. As far as I am aware, currently no date has been set for the rearranged meeting.

Now, I’m gonna go back to the subject of Newcastle….. For those who have been paying attention through different media outlets, they’ll have been seeing plenty of ins and outs and rough times at Brough Park and last weekend was nowt new with team manager Nigel Hinchcliffe being shown the door following the defeat against us. What quite went on for that to happen, who knows? They have problems down there though… bigger problems then what a lot of people know and are currently now on the lookout for an official track curator too. Quite why Johnathan Swales was let go considering he’d seemingly got Brough into a reasonable condition, again, who knows… but it looks like they’re maybe on hold till that’s in place.

They have also appointed Steve Pate as their new team manager.. for those who don’t know him, he was the Newcastle Gems NDL team boss (had them going very well) and also managed the Gems when they were riding NJL.

Quite what he can bring to a senior team that the others couldn’t, we’ll need to wait and see, but good luck Steve.…. Hopefully things can turn for the better for them when restrictions are lifted… it is actually quite sad hearing of teams struggling in such a way!

Anyhoo, like I said earlier… we head off up the road to Armadale tonight… I’ll be watching their stream in the comfort of my own home… I couldn’t possibly go to Edinburgh when I’m off to Corfu on Monday!

And the great part about this holiday… I no longer have to quarantine upon return 😁… unless, of course, I happen to bring back (another) Greek variant…. 😂😂😂
