Well, here we are….. Season 2025….. On your marks….. Welcome to the…

What’s better than having one speedway team to support? Two teams to support.
So what’s better than having two speedway teams to support?
Three teams to support you say? Consider it done!
That dream is about to become a reality as the Championship Bandits, National League Bullets and Northern Junior teams all rocking the Black and Gold in 2021 in a move I genuinely never saw coming.
I say I never saw it coming yet when I think about it, it makes so much sense. Now we have a genuine pathway for young aspiring riders with a genuine ladder for progress all here on the Shielfield Park doorstep. That is something that I don’t believe we have ever had before and now that the gap has been bridged between the Northern Junior League and the Championship with the introduction of the Bullets.
Now I’ve previewed the Bandits team at great length before but at the time of writing all we know about the Bullets is that Leon Flint and Kyle Bickley are confirmed as starters, and that is a pretty good place to start I would say.
Without wishing to give away any potential spoilers it would be fair to say that there are a few local based riders available at our disposal, allowing the team to be made up of riders predominantly from the surrounding area, which is exactly how it should be.
Although rumours of a David Meldrum comeback may be wide of the mark, nothing can be discounted given Jason Crump and Paul Hurry will be making appearances this season!
Not only that, but for the first time that I can recall the National League will have a very northern feel about it with Edinburgh and Newcastle also having teams in the league.
This of course means that we have an opportunity to give our nearest and dearest a good hiding at three levels and what’s not to like about that?
In all seriousness though it is great to see so many clubs allowing local talent to hone their craft without having to travel the length and breadth of the country to get the track time and allowing a pathway to progress through the ranks to a higher level. This is something that the northern speedway scene has been missing for many years now, but not any more.
It would appear that the forbidden door is now open and the Bullet Club is here…
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me jbspeedwaymedia@hotmail.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time…and there will be a next time.
