ON YOUR MARKS…..

The Dirt Xtra
Sarah Charalambous
Well, here we are….. Season 2025….. On your marks….. Welcome to the…

Okay… Happy clapper extraordinaire back to please you all….
These blogs – from all of us – have eased off lately, but with the other three all taking on considerable extra speedway duties, in and outside the club, it is maybe the case to concentrate Dirt Xtra offerings more into the off-season months.
The club is well-served with new aspects of public information now in any case, with the Total Access stuff, BanditsTV, and the radio programmes.
For my absence, well, those who know me are aware I’ve had a couple of up and down months….
My job has become extremely difficult with ever-increasing patient caseloads, and the extra responsibilities that come with seniority…. I often get home late at night….. and I’ve been very tired, both mentally and physically…..
Both my boys have had chicken pox within close proximity to each other; Theo getting it particularly badly….. and let’s not beat around the bush, speedway at Berwick this season hasn’t been easy up to this point….. We’ve had injuries….. We’ve had really close, but disappointing results — none more so then the agonising heat 15 against Edinburgh which was cruelly snatched from us by Leon’s bike picking up that bloody puncture…..
BUT……
Last Saturday, 29th July, was a long time coming…..
Berwick 46, Redcar 44
We may have had three guests but we’ve also had stronger line-ups in the past and the Bears have still done us over…..
Not this time!!!
To quote Greg Blair on Bandits TV… “Get it right up ye, Redcar!”
Anyways…..
Since that hugely morale-boosting victory over Redcar, we’ve made positive moves in the transfer market, rather than continue to reply on guests or r/r to cover the injuries.
We welcome in Hans Andersen – no less — to replace TJ (who despite his season ending injuries and cumbersome body brace still managed a smile in the latest released photo from Dick) and recently-signed Bullet Steve Boxall to replace Jacob Hook.
I think it’s obvious that, had Hooky not been injured he’d be hanging around as, IMO, he’s been a good signing since moving from Edinburgh.
The signing of Hans A has certainly got people talking around town and looks like it could draw a new crowd of people to come see him in the FTS Bandits’ colours.
The signing of Steve Boxall though, has my husband cock-a-hoop.
“Where’s my Rye House gear?” I was asked.
“Errrrr, you threw it in the bin when we moved up here, 6 years ago”…..
Oops!!!
Never mind my dear husband…. Super Stevie Boxall is now in the mighty Black and Gold, so you can keep your Berwick gear on and match him…..
We welcome reigning champions and a lot of peoples’ favourites for a treble, Poole Pirates into town this weekend for what will be yet another really hard one to get through….
But……same as last week, and I’ll be happy…..
Very happy!
