The more things change, the more they stay the same, or so…
Happy new year one and all, 2022 is in the record books, 2023 is here and January, traditionally the longest month of the year, is almost over. That of course means that we are mere weeks away from the 2023 speedway season being underway.
Whilst that is obviously exciting, it could really do with being a tad bit warmer and drier when it eventually rolls around. With that said, the nights are starting to draw out as my granny would say, daylight is starting to extend and little by little we are edging ever closer.
So, what’s been happening? Well, honestly not an awful lot, but we have had some new additions to the Bullets side in the form of Archie Freeman, Danny Phillips and Josh Embleton joining regulars Mason Watson and skipper Greg Blair in a very different looking team than what we have been used to.
We also have the Bandits 2023 fixtures to mull over, plan out our trips around and book time off work for and the Bullets fixtures appear to be arriving imminently so it’s all starting to come together rather nicely.
In other news, there was some good feedback on my previous blog where I looked at the frankly ridiculous ranking of the various programmes from around the tracks and it would appear that I was far from alone in my thoughts.
I see there was even a gentleman wrote to the Speedway Star about it and had his letter published, which makes me hope that perhaps a fresh approach will be the order of the day in 2023…time will ultimately tell I guess.
Naturally, because this is speedway there is always an element of doom and gloom but we try not to give those sorts the time of day. There is an upcoming USA vs Rest of The World meeting being streamed from America which looks like a rather tasty line-up and the guys at British Speedway Network are all over bringing that to our screens on February 4th. That should serve as a bit of an appetiser for the upcoming season and I personally can’t wait.
But you know what I’m looking forward to more? March 25th being back at Shielfield Park for press and practice, but even more than that is the following weekend and the first night back.
It might not feel like it, but it isn’t that far away…
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply wish to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me jbspeedwaymedia@hotmail.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters you can tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time…and there will be a next time.
Right, I’ll hae’tae gan.
