DOUBLE BUMMER

Well, that was a bummer!

I was all set to get right back in the swing of things, helping out at the Benfund Bonanza at Worky tomorrow, first meeting of the season and all that — when my phone pinged me the news that it was rained aff.

The next plan was for a restaging on Sunday week (24th) but that’s not happening either. Double bummer.

Although, that short-notice Sunday show would have meant my pulling out (sending a donation instead of giving of my services) so I’m maybe not just as sorry about the second postponement as I should be……..

Y’see, virtually every Sabbath day since late 1978 (eeek!) I’ve been contracted to host radio programmes up the road — and for all these years this has meant, for my speedway activities at any rate, never on Sunday…………….

Had there been a bit more notice, I might – would – have negotiated a radio reprieve for next weekend, but with the radio station’s schedules all published weeks in advance, I’m sorry to report that the now-cancelled Sunday Bonanza would have been Dickless.

Which wouldn’t have mattered a hill of beans to anyone but me, of course. No-one comes to speedway to see a presenter present.

Or indeed, watch a referee referee, a team manager manage or anything else…..

They come to see motor-bikes going sideways. Always have, always will.

Anyway, these weather woes mean I have wait until our P&P, 6pm next Saturday, to hear the bikes and sniff the fumes.

Here’s hoping for finer weather than the BenFund boys had at Worky, and a whole load of you will be coming along to see the brand-new Jewson Bandits strutting their stuff.

Hopefully, among the onlookers, carefully checking out the squad, we’ll have Two Mules – our blogging pal, Sister Sarah – who hasn’t been too well over the winter months.

She tells me that she’s on the mend, and will no doubt be telling you all, once she restarts her not-always-complimentary blogs.

Which I’ll be so pleased to see. Sarah’s a super lady, a bucket of warm cuddles with a happy laughter topping. Get well soon, poppet!

Me myself, having been stuck at home since our last meeting back in September (when the already-missed Bullets took on Belle Vue Colts. Who won by two points, wholly due to some laddie called Freddy Hodder winning three of the last four heats) have held on to my fading heath, even doing a bit of jogging.

By the way, did you know that ‘jogging’ –- meaning running alone to stay fit -– is a fairly modern pastime?

It arose though James E Fixx, who published ‘The Complete Book Of Running’ in 1977, which quickly became a worldwide best-seller.

Sadly, Mr Fixx collapsed and died in 1984.

While out jogging………

True story.
