Lethal Lockdown

Day 7248 of lockdown…and what seems like 25 years since I last saw a speedway bike flying round a track!

As I’ve previously mentioned, these flashback meetings on YouTube are absolutely great, but you just can’t beat the real thing…but for now we just have to wait, and wait, and better wait.

Frustrating isn’t the word, but it is what it is as they say!

So what else is left to speak of?

Well the In the Red documentary premiered on YouTube and it provided a tremendous insight into the Glasgow Tigers 2019 Season and without wishing to spoil it for anyone, the fairytale ending of them winning the league didn’t happen. Come to think of it, that away win they needed at Shielfield didn’t either!

All jokes aside, the documentary is a fascinating insight into virtually all aspects of the club, be that from the fans and volunteers of the club who have an undying passion for the club, or from the team perspective of the ups, downs, triumphs and tribulations that occur over the course of the season.

If you haven’t watched it, I thoroughly recommend that you do. I would be lying to you if I said I didn’t have a small tear in my eye at certain points during it.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Tigers and I think a lot of their fans have a soft spot for the Bandits. That may be due to the fact we have a common “enemy” in the Monarchs, or it could be that both sets of fans fully understand what it’s like to suffer the uncertainty of the future and to have see their club suffer the lowest of lows.

Whatever it is, I know that as a result I’ve made plenty of friends at Glasgow over the years and what I have always found is that win, lose or draw the meetings between the two sides generally end with a handshake and wishes of a safe journey home, which is just the way it should be.

Both sets of fans are fiercely loyal to their club and both sets of fans are extremely passionate, but they also know to appreciate what they have, perhaps in these uncertain times more than ever.

So the question is, should the Bandits produce a documentary?

Whilst I would absolutely love to see it, I always feel the Bandits are much more akin to a Hollywood blockbuster but that in itself poses some much more serious questions…

What’s it called?

Who plays the lead role?

Who plays Dick Barrie?

Will we need subtitles?

What’s the plot and have I lost it?

The answer to that last question is yes, yes I have lost the plot but the lack of speedway is shrinking my head and I’ve got to think of something.

Feel free to send me your suggestions as to who you would cast in your version of a Berwick Bandits movie and lets all try to have a little fun.

Hopefully normal service will be resumed sooner rather than later!
