Looking Back, Looking Ahead

The year of 2022 is almost in the rear view mirror and I guess now is probably as good a time as any to reflect back on the year it has been.

The one major positive from a worldwide standpoint is that it was a year where some sort of normality returned to the world and while perhaps sanity didn’t prevail altogether, we can probably mark 2022 down as significantly better than its predecessors.

From a Berwick Speedway standpoint it was a year where the Bandits didn’t hit the heights that the early season promise and optimism had anticipated. The Bullets faired a little better but their playoff hopes went up in smoke with a whimper rather than a bang.

On track we were treated to some fantastic action, and you can actually see the best of that action here… Berwick Speedway Best Heats 2022 – YouTube

If you haven’t seen it already, I suggest you do and show your non speedway mates what they are missing. A huge credit must go to Graham McCleary for putting together that compilation.

Now, I will keep this next part brief as this blog is about speedway and not about me, but on a personal note 2022 was a fairly decent year. Sure, I have probably been a little bit quieter on here than in previous years but a slight career change away from speedway has seen me be a little busier, but perhaps more importantly, it has seen me be a bit happier away from trackside.

With that in mind, regular and long term readers will recall that over the last two or three years will know that I have toyed with the idea of packing all of this in at this time of the year. Well, I have some news, I am not going anywhere because I’m having far too much fun.

Programme notes will return once George Dodds crunches his numbers and finalises the deal. Regular blogs on here will also return, providing they are wanted and needed and if what I’m being told is correct, myself and my fellow shouty brethren Marty will be back to call the action from the top of the tower with Graham McCleary piloting the camera.

With all that being said, this cold weather can get itself to you know what and lets look ahead to the spring and getting some sideways action once more as both the Bandits and the Bullets get back in the ring to take another swing.

All that’s left to say is a massive thank you to you all for reading these blogs, supporting what we do here and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I’ll see you all in 2023!

Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply wish to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me jbspeedwaymedia@hotmail.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters you can tweet @Mythman666.

Until next time…and there will be a next time

Right, I’ll hae’tae gan.
