So now we know…
There will be no British league action in 2020 and the season has been cancelled. As we know, there are always the “it was never gonna happen” brigade, but fair play to the BSPA for not throwing the towel in at the very beginning.
Of course we were clinging on to faint hope and it is that same hope that kills you, however it is what it is and we look ahead to 2021, the build up to which I imagine will be a little strange given there will be very little in the way of riders moving clubs.
Although this is speedway so you never know.
For me personally I had already resigned myself to the fact that I likely wouldn’t see any racing in 2020 so the news, while disappointing and perhaps unsurprising wasn’t actually too bitter a pill to swallow.
That may sound like I’m not all that upset about missing speedway, but that could not be further from the truth. It has well and truly driven me to despair not getting my weekly fix of live action, and of course there is the social aspect of it all too.
There is however a glimmer of light, a beacon of hope if you will that we will see live action of some description at Shielfield Park in 2020 after all, albeit not league action.
Better than nothing at all and if it does indeed happen, it means that those of us with impressive streaks in terms of years watching the Bandit may well be able to add to our tallies.
For those interested, I’m heading into season number 22…hopefully!
For now though all we can do is sit tight and wait, which shouldn’t be too difficult given that it has come pretty naturally over the last few months.
Whatever action we are served up, I shall be there and I hope you will be too! 2020 was fixing to be a good one and there was a genuine air of excitement and anticipation heading into the new season, only for world events to get in the way.
It would be a real shame if all of that was for nothing, so whatever action we get to see from this point forward should be cherished and we can carry that enthusiasm and excitement into 2021.
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me email@example.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time…and there will be a next time.
