PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?

It was supposed to be a weekend that would give so much!

We’d continue our recent upturn in form at Armadale and push the Monarchs close… Berwick would yet again send Edinburgh packing from Shielfield with sod all and the English Men’s football team would finally bring it home after 55 years…

What actually happened was stark contrast….

Okay, maybe I’m a bit harsh there about our performance at Armadale…… we pushed Edinburgh quite hard…… and could’ve easily taken a point had a couple of things went our way,,,… both Leon and new boy Kasper took very heavy falls in their last outings…… but that’s by the by……

English footballing fans’ hearts were smashed to pieces as Euro 2020 (in 2021 thanks, COVID!) was decided on penalties……the cruellest way, IMO, for any major competition in football to be won…… we know what the result was… I’m sure genuine English football fans shed a tear, I know I did …….

But my goodness… the pies-de-resisanxe of the weekend…. 32-58… AT HOME!!

Now..… I’ve seen some absolutely stinking meetings for us…… I’ve witnessed Sheffield put 69 past us at Owlerton……. I sat through 2007 which was as bad a season as I can recall…… (3 meetings won all year.. someone correct me if I’m wrong )… 2017 to start with was absolutely dire but we had Nick Morris bring us huge smiles come the end of the season…..… but that home performance has to rank as one of the worst I’ve had the displeasure of seeing!

It may be “a one off” really bad night…… I tryly hope so…. but that now equates to three home defeats out of 6!

Being 5-19 down after 4 had me cracking open the pink gin and diet lemonade before heat 5….. and those who know me know I don’t really drink now I’ve got both my kids in attendance…… it got worse post-heat 8 and actually after that, for the first time, I genuinely wasn’t bothered about what was going on in front of me…… I will fight my teams corner usually, but nah…… this time no!

This sort of home defeat was coming at some point…….. I truly didn’t think it would be Edinburgh to do it to us.

As a paying customer, I believe I have a right to my views so I will say them! I know I echo the voices of others who left as dumbfounded as I did!

There was more fighting at Wembley – not least outside the stadium — then I seen out on the track…… there was more dirt in my hair then out on track……. why so slick when our team clearly can’t string a gate together between them?

Think what made this defeat worse was it showed how much we had been relying on continuous big scores from Leon…and now we’ve had the sad news that he’s out for “up to 4-5 weeks” with a fractured scaphoid following his fall at Armadale.

The scaphoid can be an absolutely horrid bone to break! I know that as I witnessed my sister in a cast for 2.5 months with the exact same injury!

So with that news, I can only imagine that it’s a guest reserve this month, and back to back to R/R when he’s in the team proper in August. “Sigh”

Even worse for Leon is that he has to pull out of this week’s British Under 21 final in which he must have been tipped as one of the favourites to win it!

Thankfully at only 18 Leon has time on his side for another shot at it!

Anyways, to console myself after such a stinking sports weekend I hopped on a plane on Monday and have arrived on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu. And you know what, I truly feel happy here!

No stress… hot weather (hit 42 degrees yesterday)…… my kids enjoying themselves….… and IMO, a lot safer a country than the UK with the current COVID situation.

It’s clean, well sanitised, impeccable service! Wonder if the Greeks have heard of speedway? Must be a coliseum we can use somewhere!

Anyways, see you all on the 24th, when the Bullets take on Mildenhall!
