SOMETHING IN THE AIR

There’s something in the air right now when it comes to Berwick Speedway.

The mood has completely shifted after what had been a difficult period to be a Bandits fan.

I don’t just say this because of on-track success, although, aye, maybe that has helped….

But two weeks in a row…. Two very pleasing attendances, the size of crowd we haven’t seen regularly for a while……

Our team…….. Not just one rider, not just two — but all seven so clearly wanting to win…. Racing so hard for their points, not just poodling around………

Realising that it’s not just the “boys club” any more…. You feel like you are watching a shift being put in, right in front of you!

I’m a bit late in writing this of course…. But our first weekend; home and away Border Trophy wins against Workington…….

Doing the double!!……… Absolutely brilliant!

And then, Saturday just past…….

We laid another voodoo to rest as we sent League Champs Glasgow back up the M8 with their stripey tails between their legs….. To think again.

As expected, former Bandit and fine wine Chris Harris continued to show his liking for Shielfield Park with a fantastic 15 points from 6 rides…… But — how rare, how nice, for Berwick fans to be able to say we’ve got a Number 1 who can beat Bomber three times on the same night….. That we’ve got a Number 1 who can compete in crucial heats………….

That win against Glasgow is a good start for us in terms of the BSN series………. Edinburgh to come this weekend and it would be nice to think we can put as big a score as possible over the Monarchs, firstly to avenge that heartbreaking heat 15 reversal from last season —- which gave the Monarchs the win — and secondly, as progression from our BSN group could easily come down to race points difference………….

It won’t be an easy task though and I’m sure Stewart will ensure we don’t rest on our laurels!
