Well, here we are….. Season 2025….. On your marks….. Welcome to the…

We now find ourselves in April with no wheels been turned in anger, no sideways action to speak of and nothing but isolation and complete and utter frustration.
Surely it isn’t just me?
The only good thing about this entire situation is that it hasn’t half made me realise just how much I love my speedway and how much I maybe take it for granted at times.
Surely it isn’t just me?
As I have said many a time before speedway is my escape from the norm, it’s my time to wind down and it has long since been my way of justifying the complete and utter torture that a week in the motor trade can often bring.
I know for a fact that isn’t just me!
But enough about work!
As many will and already have, this ongoing situation has brought about a few folks taking a few trips down memory lane, albeit virtually and all whilst maintaining a safe and responsible social distance of course.
This past Friday night I sat down to watch the Bandits push our old pals the Monarchs all the way to a last heat decider at Armadale in a meeting from 1997. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it, with a tremendous individual performance from Kevin Little arguably the highlight…he’s a hall of famer you know!
Also I have to say that for the longest time I always believed Jorg Pingel to be somewhat of a Shielfield park specialist but in fairness to him he attacked the Armadale track far better than many who have been visiting the place for years and he deserved more points for his efforts.
That particular meeting filled an hour or so of what would have otherwise been another mundane evening of the same old same old.
What day is it? I have no idea anymore as they’re all the bloody same just now!
Now as there is very little to write about and very little speedway going on, club legend Mike Moseley has kindly sent me some quiz questions for everyone to mull over during their isolation and lockdown.
Answers on a postcard please…
1. Which country did Dick Barrie visit during the winter?
2. If and when the season gets underway, which club will Jason Crump be riding for?
3. Apart From Jamie Halder, who was the only rider who failed to score a point at the BEN Fund Bonanza?
4. On the site of which defunct track will you find Cinder Close, Oval Crescent and Broadside Avenue?
5. Which National Development League outfit will have the nickname of ‘Royals’ when and if the season starts?
6. YELL ELLO KILT will don the colours of Mildenhall, can you unscramble his name?
7. Which club has acquired the services of Ricky Wells for the2020 season?
8. Who finished third in the 2019 GP Series?
9. Which club have staged the first part of the 2020 British Amateur Championship?
10. Assuming the season gets underway, who will be the eldest rider in the Berwick septet?
Massive thanks to Mike for providing this quiz and filling the column inches for me, feel free to send me your answers and I will tell you how you did!
Stay safe everyone!
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me jbspeedwaymedia@hotmail.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time…and there will be a next time.
