Bandits keep busy

While collectively the R.E.D Bandits, powered by STS are suffering from a bad case of spring cancellation fever, individually the boys are as busy as they can be.

With guest appearances not counting towards green sheet averages, Nick Morris continues to sit on a bargain sub-seven average, a fact that has not gone un-noticed by the management at Oxford.

In the continuing absence of Erik Riss, Nick makes his third appearance for the Cheetahs at home to Edinburgh in the BSN live match tonight after wearing their colours in both legs of the Knockout Cup quarter-final defeat to Poole. That’s a result which sets up a repeat of the legendary 1989 Final between Berwick and the Pirates in this year’s semi-final.

Our former number one Drew Kemp fills Dan Thompson’s berth for the Monarchs before joining Nick in the Leicester side which entertains Sheffield at the Hydroscand Arena on Thursday night.

Lining up for the Tigers will be our skipper Jye Etheridge who had an eventful and mixed Bank Holiday Monday in the Sheffield side’s double header against Belle Vue. Jye was involved in a number of hotly debated incidents in the mid-day showdown at the National Speedway Centre, a race win, a fall and an exclusion completing the bingo card as the Aces won by 10 points.

It was a different story later that day as Jye’s eight-point haul at Owlerton set his side up for an unanticipated aggregate point as they hammered the Aces 54-36.

Jack Smith is another busy Bandit, sandwiching a double figure haul for Buxton in the challenge match victory over Stoke on Sunday between guest appearances for Glasgow in place of Mario Hausl at Scunthorpe last Friday and Poole tonight.

With Victor Palovaara and Lasse Fredriksen active in Sweden that leaves only Peter Kildemand and Reid Battye on the sidelines where they are concentrating of working towards fitness in time for the Bandits big return – June 13 against Glasgow at Shielfield Park.

Match sponsorship opportunities and hospitality spots are available for the visit of the Tigers. Email club@berwickspeedway.com
