Erik Riss and Sam Hagon become honorary Jewson Bandits, powered by Keenwood Karpets, this weekend as we go Tiger hunting.

They will be joined by Oxford’s National Development League heat leader Jason Garrad as Berwick boss Stewart Dickson looks to get our injury-hit Cab Direct Championship campaign back on track.

German Riss has the unenviable task of covering for Rory Schlein whose crash as Scunthorpe brought to an abrupt end the Australian’s best scoring streak for some time.

A busy and popular performer on the weekend longtrack and grasstrack circuits in addition to riding for Landshut in the Polish league, Riss is currently riding only in the Premiership in Britain this year after being signed by Oxford Spires in April.

He has also guested for former club Redcar in the Championship and Berwick  have taken advantage of a rare free weekend to book the 28-year-old in. He has been a Bandit before, guesting against Oxford at Shielfield Park last season.

Poole’s Sam Hagon, our guest choice in place of Bastian Borke, is hot property at the moment, his impressive form since joining the Pirates culminating in him winning the British under-21 Championship at Ashfield, beating Leon Flint in the final.

The 19-year-old was also handed a chance in the Premiership, replacing Joe Thompson as Leicester Lions’ Rising Star.

He faced us at Ashfield in the BSN Series in April, guesting for the suspended Lee Complin, one of three appearances in Tigers’ colours that month.

With Freddy Hodder on international duty this weekend the choices of two point guests were severely limited.

He is joined in Poland for the European under-19 Pairs Championship by Ashton Boughen and Luke Harrison leaving both Oxford and Scunthorpe looking for similar cover.

With six of the Championship teams in action on Friday and Scunthorpe at Workington on Saturday, Dickson has called on Garrad who has scored 30 points in Oxford’s three NDL meetings so far this season.

He’s no stranger to Berwick colours having guested twice for the Bullets in 2023.
