Birmingham Brummies: 8
Berwick “FTS” Bandits Powered by Keenwood Karpets: 4
SGB Championship
Abandoned after two races due to medical cover issues. Result does not stand.
The Berwick FTS Bandits opened up their 2022 season with a solid 58-32 win over the Birmingham Brummies, and travelled to the midlands last night with the intension to emulate that effort again, but at Perry Bar, that was always going to be a tougher task.
James Shanes and Claus Vising made the best of the gates in Heat One, but Vissing took the wide line off bend two, allowing Chris Harris the chance to move into second spot, and despite an excellent chase, he couldn’t pass Shanes in a home 4-2.
Stefan Nielsen repeated Shanes’ achievement from the gate in Heat Two with Kyle Bickley passing James Pearson on bend two, but the Brummie kept the heat blazing and reclaimed third place behind Jye Etheridge in another home 4-2, the score now 8-4, however a heavy fall in Heat Three saw Josh Auty lift violently and veer directly into the fence, the race being stopped with his exclusion from the re-run.
Unfortunately, Auty needed the attendance of an ambulance on track where he received treatment, as the fence was repaired. Auty was reported to have a right ankle injury and had to be transferred to the County Ambulance necessitating a further delay, but with a report coming in to the stadium that the delay for the ambulance could be up to six hours, the Brummies’ promotion decided to abandon the match, which will be restaged later in the year.
