Danyon latest

We can now update you on Danyon Hume who remains in the Northumbria Specialist Care Hospital in Cramlington.

Unfortunately it has been confirmed that our popular skipper has fractured two vertebrae in his back.

Doctors and specialists are monitoring his situation before deciding whether surgery is necessary.

Danyon’s partner Jade – who is at the hospital along with his parents – posted the update on Facebook earlier this evening.

“Obviously the news is not what we want but we are thinking positive at the moment,” Jade wrote.

She added: “We would both like to thank everyone, all Berwick management, the track staff, ambulance crew, our friends, family and all the fans at Berwick speedway. Everyone rallied around and helped with everything.”

It goes without saying that everyone at Shielfield Park sends their best wishes to a rider who has become a firm favourite in his two years racing with us for a full and speedy recovery.

We would also like to repeat our thanks to the spectators at Shielfield and the Edinburgh management and riders for their patience and understanding while the paramedics and staff from Rapid Response treated Danyon following the crash and then his transfer to the county ambulance.

It underlines just how dangerous our great sport can be and the dangers that the young men providing our entertainment face every time they pull on their kevlars.
