Best wishes from all at Berwick Speedway to our adopted Aussie Jye Etheridge who will not be part of the 2025 Bandits’ side.
Jye, from Newcastle, New South Wales, joined the club in 2017 having previously ridden in Britain for Edinburgh and Redcar.
The 29-year-old was named Rider of the Year in his first three seasons with us during a spell which saw him wear the number one race jacket and captain what had become his home-town team.
During his time with us Jye rattled up 898 points in league, cup, Shield and BSN Series meetings plus 139 bonus points and celebrated four paid maximums – 14+1 against Sheffield (2018) and Edinburgh (2019), 11+1 against Plymouth (2021) and Oxford (2022).
Announcing his move, Jye said: “Since 2017 Berwick has been a huge part of my life and it’s now the place I call home.
“I’ve had any highs and lows in my time with the Bandits and despite loving second, I feel it’s time I moved on and tried something new in 2025.
“I feel it’s a natural time for us to part ways but I’ll be forever thankful to the fans, sponsors and management for their support.
“I’ll always be part of this club but for now I am excited about the new challenge that’s in front of me.
“I need a change I’ve been in one place too long. I’ve spent time this winter speaking with family and friends, and I want a new challenge.
“It’s going to be strange not racing at Shielfield Park, heading off to another home track every week and especially when I return and have to find a space in the away pit bay!
“But that’s speedway and we move on. I’m grateful to everyone at the club and I won’t be stranger around either Shielfield or the town.”
