Nathan blow

A disappointing medical bulletin today after x-rays revealed that Nathan Stoneman suffered a broken scapula (shoulder blade) in his high speed crash last night.

The popular Welshman caught the back wheel of Plymouth’s Harry McGurk having started 15 metres back in heat two after breaking the tapes in the first running of the heat. His bike flew over the third bend safety fence with Nathan ending up in the polyfoam barrier .

“Effectively that’s Nathan’s season over,” Berwick team manager Gary Flint admitted.

“It is a real shame as he has been going well for both us and Oxford Chargers in the National League and had quickly become a very popular member of the Bandits’ family.

“Nathan thbniks he’ll be fit before the end of the season but I think that’s a bit ambitious.”

Berwick race at Birmingham on Wednesday night. They still hope that Dan Jonas Knudsen’s visa will be granted in time for him to take his place at Perry Barr. Otherwise they will be looking either to use guests or promote from the Bullets to cover Stoneman and, possibly, his Danish team-mate.

Stoneman joined the Bandits as part of the double switch in which he and Knudsen replaced Kyle Bickley and the injured Ty Proctor.

Options are limited by the fact that Poole face Plymouth and there is an NDL fixture between Oxford and Belle Vue Colts the same night.
