Cab Direct has extended its backing of Championship speedway to cover the 2024 Knockout Cup.

The UK’s top taxi supplier became league title sponsor in 2023, which proved to be a highly successful and beneficial arrangement for both parties and is continuing into the new season.

Now the KO Cup at Championship level will also receive full Cab Direct support as Scunthorpe defend the silverware they secured in a dramatic Final against Poole in October.

Cab Direct marketing director, Donald Pow, commented: “It’s a natural progression to extend our sponsorship to the Championship Knockout Cup. It was an excellent first year for Cab Direct with the Championship and our brand awareness because of speedway expanded.

“Speedway and Cab Direct remains a perfect fit. Speedway has thousands of loyal fans across the UK and Cab Direct has thousands of loyal taxi drivers and operators.

“It’s set to be another very exciting season ahead in British speedway and we’re delighted to be part of it again.”

The opening meetings in the 2024 Cab Direct KO Cup feature holders Scunthorpe, who host Plymouth on Friday April 12 before heading to Devon for the return fixture the following evening. The winners of that tie then face the Bandits in the quarter-finals.

Cab Direct has also confirmed plans to run competitions around the country during the upcoming season to promote local tracks and the sport of speedway in general to their followers, as they look for taxi drivers to spread the word to their customers.

British Speedway chairman Rob Godfrey said: “We’re delighted to extend the arrangement with Cab Direct after such a successful partnership in the first year. With my Scunthorpe hat on we are determined to mount a strong defence of the KO Cup, and it’s great to add the Cab Direct name to that competition along with their brilliant support of the league.”
