Sad news to report after it was confirmed earlier today that local lad Ryan Renton has lost his long battle with cancer aged just 27.

The popular all-round sportsman and son of long-serving Berwick Speedway volunteer Brian, was first diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia in 2015 and, having been in remission, suffered a relapse two years ago.

After being told that no further treatment was available on the NHS an online fundraising page with a view to him being able to get innovative treatment currently undergoing trials in the USA and Israel.

Organisations and shops around Berwick organised fundraising events while his main football club Tweedmouth Amateurs was inundated by donations from around the football community.

For the past two years admission to the Berwick Speedway launch night and press and practice evenings have been by donation to the Ryan Renton Fund and fans donated generously at further collections

We pass on our heartfelt condolences to Ryan’s family and friends. Our thoughts are with them at such a sad time and, with the family’s blessing we will be honouring the life of this incredible young man during our meeting with Oxford on Saturday evening.
