Whisper it … but, with the table-topping super Saturday double header just hours away the sun is shining in Berwick. Admittedly in typical Borders fashion it is a less than tropical 15 degrees but the forecast is good for a glorious night both on and off track.
First up, at 6.30pm prompt, is the FTS Bandits, powered by Keenwood Karpets against league leaders Leicester Lions. Current number one and master of Shielfield Chris Harris against former top Bandit Nick Morris; Ricky v Richie, Flint v Howarth, guest Lee Complin revved up and raring to go, Theo and Kyle keen to get back among the points against the on-song Thompson twins.
Then after a bit of track TLC Bickley’s table-topping Grant Henderson Tankers Bullets do battle with the second-placed Lion Cubs – Blair and Crang with the Thompsons in their sights, Watson and Ace Pijper ready to add to their burgeoning reputation against Coles and Simpson, Rathbone and Douglas the reserves who can.
30 heats of action to pack into three hours all for £24 (£20 concessions, £6 juniors – 11-16 years, £1 under-11) if you’re paying cash at the turnstiles but juniors and under-11s go free when an adult buys their tickets online berwickspeedway.com/tickets and tonight the first 50 under-16s to have their QR code scanned will be able to claim a special goodie bag from the Bandits’ skipper, Chris will also be happy to pose for selfies and pictures before heading off the the pits to prepare for a spot on Lion taming. Gates open at 5.30pm tonight.
Tonight was scheduled to be the first half of a busy weekend for the sides but an adverse weather forecast has led Leicester to make an early call off to the reverse fixture, which was due to take place in the east Midlands tomorrow (Sunday). With continuous, heavy rain forecast the decision to postpone was made as the Lions riders and management were en route for Berwick.
