Congratulations to Wesley Waite, the latest £500 winner in Berwick Speedway’s monthly 5-1 draw.

His name was pulled out of the chequered bag on Friday night along with £100 winner Chris Adamson and Kim Redpath who receives £50.

Since its launch towards the end of the 2019 season the 5-1 Draw has been a major reason behind speedway thriving at Shielfield Park with projects such as widening the track and refurbishing facilities in addition to helping with the day-to-day running costs and rent supported via the STARS (Stadium, track and rent support) project.

Club co-owner Jamie Courtney said: “Having a monthly income from the 5-1 Draw has been a real boost for Berwick Speedway and has helped us push the club forwards while improving the racenight experience for the fans.

“When I first outlined the 5-1 Draw to the Berwick Bandits Supporters Club they immediately threw their backing behind it and offered to do the time-consuming administrative work of collecting the £10 monthly payments and actively expanding the initial 120 names signed up.

“All that in addition to actually making the monthly draws which, especially during the Covid season, was an achievement in itself . As a club we are always grateful for the backing of the Supporters’ Club and everyone who has a number in the draw.

“If we can attract new people to the 5-1 Draw then we’ll be able to make more prizes available every month as well as helping to safeguard the future of Berwick Speedway.”

The next draw will be made during the season-opening KO Cup tie between the FTS Bandits, powered by Keenwood Karpets, and Redcar Bears at Shielfield Park on April 1.
